Love Hina - Volume 1 : Moving In...
Volume 1
Bandai - 1900
Volume 1 100 Minutes 2002

Keitaro Urashima is trying for the 3rd time to get into Tokyo University, the most prestigious University in Japan.  Why?  Because of a promise he made to a girl when they were both children.  But that was long ago, and he has forgotten who the girl was.

His Parents who only see him as a loafer, are constantly nagging him.  So when his grandmother invites him to visit at her home, the Hinata apartments, he figures he can crash there.  But when he arrives he suddenly finds himself under attack by the all-female residents of the complex.  Before they completely destroy him, however; they discover that he's been named the new manager!  How will the girls react to a man living in their all-girls building?

He's already gotten off on the wrong foot.  But as they get to know him... he still finds himself at the short end of the stick (and sometimes the katana).  Can his good nature and pure heart win out?  Will the girls of the Hinata Apartments accept him?  Will his bones ever knit?  Welcome to Keitaro's life.  Welcome to Love Hina.

 Matt's Bit

Yet another romantic comedy in the collection.  Actually Mancer's collection, but I'll most likely be picking it up as well.  While Oh My Goddess is more on the romantic end of things, this definitely sides on comedy.  The animation is pretty well done for a TV series and the characters are pretty memorable.  What didn't catch my notice until after I'd seen the first 8 episodes a few times is that the music is actually quite cool.  It isn't overpowering but it most certainly sets the mood.  Kinda techno-ish, and loopy.  The first volume does the basic character introductions and sets the tone for the series.  The town's 'Council Elders' (or ancient kids depending on how you look at it) interact with the characters perfectly.  I'm still trying to decide who my favorite character is, but I'm going to have to say Motoko Aoyama the "Kendo Girl".  But that may change to Kaolla Su, or even Mitsumi by the end of the series... we'll just have to wait and see.

Even better, Megumi Hayashibara sings both the opening and closing themes, and plays a small role as Keitaro's Aunt Haruka who runs the Hinata Tea House.  I can't wait to see more!

 Mancer's Bit

The only thing that makes me laugh anymore is anime, so anything with manic romantic hijinks is tops on my list. The only problem I have with it is how long it takes for the next volume to be released.

Poor Keitaro is in a "Tenchi-relationship", a nice, likeable guy surrounded by cute and potentially dangerous girls, each with charming ... "quirks". No one is quite as insane as in Ranma 1/2 and the "romance" is more down-to-earth than Ah! My Goddess, but Love Hina is a well-mixed combination of the three series. Every single character is likeable, the art is beautiful, the music is odd and perfect and the seiyuu make the humorous hilarious.

 Liz's Bit

Liz has no bit because she doesn't like anime 'Comedies'.
